MOBILE, Ala. – To wrap up their regular season the University of South Alabama women’s tennis team will take on UAB Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
The Jaguars post a 14-9 record in their spring campaign and are 8-1 in home matches.
“I am looking forward to our match against a solid UAB team who is having a good year,” said USA head coach
Jaco Keyser.
South Alabama fell 6-1 to No. 40 Tulane on Wednesday. Freshman
Paula Sanchez (Bogota, Columbia) picked up the only win for the Jaguars with a 7-6 (ret.) victory at No. 5.
Sanchez and sophomore
Mary Angela Martin (Mobile, Ala.) anchor the bottom of the lineup for USA. Martin is 14-3 in the spring and currently holds an eight-match win streak. Sanchez is 11-3 and has won two straight matches.
The Blazers are 12-6 overall and have won their last four matches.
Isabel Fernandez leads UAB with a 14-4 mark at the top two spots. Fernandez and partner
Elaine Simon are 12-3 in doubles matches and hold a three-match win streak.
USA leads the all-time series with UAB 21-0. The two teams last faced off in February last season when the Jaguars defeated the Blazers 5-2.
“This weekend will be a good opportunity to do some fine tuning before our conference tournament,” said Keyser.
