WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS HOMESTAND WITH NICHOLLS STATE AND UT-MARTIN

MOBILE, Ala. – After splitting a pair of matches in Tulsa, Okla., the University of South Alabama women’s team return home to host Nicholls State and Tennessee Martin this weekend at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

South Alabama will face Nicholls Thursday at 1 p.m. and Tennessee Martin Friday at 1 p.m.

“I am looking forward to some good matches in the next few days,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “I feel like we have a good base right now and I am confident that we will compete at a high level day in and day out.”

The Jaguars are 6-4 on the season coming off a 5-1 win over Oral Roberts Saturday and a 7-0 loss to 28th-ranked Tulsa Sunday.

Sophomore Mary Angela Martin (Mobile, Ala.) brings a 6-2 record at the bottom three spots. Martin and doubles partner freshman Cinta Maria Papke (Flein, Germany) post a 3-1 mark in doubles in the spring.

Thursday will mark the sixth meeting between South Alabama and Nicholls. The Jaguars hold a 4-1 advantage over the Colonels after a 6-1 victory last season. Marie Aubert leads NSU with an 8-4 mark at the top four spots. Five of her eight wins have come in straight sets.

USA leads the all-time series with UTM 1-0. The two teams haven’t met since 1994 when the Jaguars won 6-3 over the Skyhawks. Tennessee Martin has a 1-6 record in the spring and their only win comes from a 5-2 victory over North Alabama Sunday.
