WOMEN’S TENNIS PUTS NINE MATCH WIN STREAK UP AGAINST NO. 58 TULANE

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team will close out its regular season Wednesday against No. 58 Tulane at 2 p.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

USA enters the match 13-4 after picking up its ninth consecutive victory with a 4-3 win over Sun Belt opponent Arkansas State Saturday.

“It was a good win against Arkansas State,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “We made it a little tougher on ourselves than it had to be, but the bottom line is we figured out a way to win.”

Freshman Mariya Krachok (Kiev, Ukraine) extended her personal win streak to nine when she defeated Ceara Howey 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 to secure the match for South Alabama.

The Jaguars lead the all-time series with the Green Wave 22-7. The two teams faced each other last season at Tulane when USA fell 5-2.

Tulane posts a 15-5 mark in the spring. Mariam Kurdadze leads the Green Wave at No. 1 going 12-7 in her spring campaign. Emma Levy follows with a 14-4 record, splitting time at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3. The two are 13-5 in doubles together this spring.

“To be honest it doesn’t matter to me or the team if our opponent is ranked or not,” said Keyser. “We need to work on our own games and control what we can on our side of the net. If we go in with the same attitude and confidence then we have a shot against most teams out there.”

Admission is free to all South Alabama tennis matches.
