November, 1988
Marie Lirette finishes the 1988 season with 410 kills and 554 digs — both the second-highest season totals in school history at the time — to become the first Jaguar to be named the Sun Belt Conference volleyball Player of the Year. She was also selected first-team all-league that fall after helping USA to a third-place finish at the conference tournament, while during the regular season she led the Jags to victories over Ole Miss and South Carolina en route to the program’s first back-to-back 20-win seasons. Lirette, a two-year letterwinner, still ranks eighth on the school’s career record list with 855 digs and ninth with 2.65 kills per set.
