TROY SWEEPS USA WOMEN'S TENNIS

Box Score

TROY, Ala.
– The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team was downed 7-0 by Sun Belt Conference rival Troy Wednesday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

“It was a very disappointing day as a team,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “Our energy and body language were negative and there was just no willingness to engage in a battle. We had a lack of fight and pride. All of these things are aspects of the game that we can control. Hopefully everyone saw what happens when we have the wrong mindset and we can fix it fast.”

The Trojans started the day strong, winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the first point of the match. On the No. 2 court USA junior Chané Hines (Johannesburg, South Africa) and sophomore Jess Courtnell (Newcastle, England) picked up the Jags only win of the day with their 9-7 victory over Rosaura Ramirez-Vega and Lyubov Dorofeeva.

In singles action Troy topped South Alabama in straight sets at all positions except No. 2. After losing the first set 6-3 to Olfa Dhaoui, Hines won the second set 6-1 before eventually dropping the third set 13-11 in a super tiebreaker.

On April 16-17 the Jags will travel to New Orleans where they will take on Xavier of Louisiana and Tulane. Both matches will begin at 11 a.m.
