MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team travels to a familiar foe Wednesday when the Jaguars take on Sun Belt Conference rivals Troy Wednesday at 2 p.m.
“Troy is a solid team,” said USA head coach
Jaco Keyser. “We are looking forward to a good battle with our old rival.”
The Jaguars lead the all-time series with the Trojans 6-2. Last season Troy topped USA 5-2 in mobile.
South Alabama (1-10) enters the match after being swept 7-0 by No. 64 Georgia State on April 3 in Mobile.
USA’s top performer is junior
Chané Hines (Johannesburg, South Africa). Hines is 6-5 in dual matches and 7-8 overall. When Hines plays with senior
Katie Welch (Mobile, Ala.) the duo has only given up one match at No. 1 doubles.
Troy is 8-12 in their spring campaign and is coming off of a two-win weekend on the road where they downed Arkansas State 4-3 on April 1 and Arkansas-Little Rock 7-0 on April 2.
The Trojans No. 1 singles player,
Karoline Grymel, is 11-9 so far this season and holds a three-match win streak. Grymel also leads Troy in doubles. She is 13-6 on the No. 1 court and has won six in a row when paired with
Leonie Guijt.
