USA vs. Tulane box score
NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Tulane in their last match of the regular season Sunday afternoon at Goldring Tennis Stadium.
The Jaguars are now 2-12 in their spring campaign. With the win, the Green Wave advanced to 11-10 on the season.
“I’m very proud of the way we fought and competed today,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser.
Tulane defeated USA on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts to secure the doubles point.
South Alabama junior Alina Volman (Lugansk, Ukraine) and sophomore Jess Courtnell (Newcastle, England) paired up to defeat Emma Helisten and Lindsay Dvorak 8-4 in the No. 2 flight.
In singles action, the Green Wave picked up quick wins on the No. 5 and No. 6 courts to take the 3-0 lead.
Volman’s 7-5, 6-4 victory over Dvorak at No. 2 singles came next to put the Jaguars on the board. Courtnell added the second point, downing Helisten in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 4 position.
After dropping her first set 6-3, Hila Elster came back to win the final two sets 6-3, 6-2 over junior Chané Hines in the No. 3 spot to clinch the victory for the Green Wave.
Tulane’s final point came with Emma Levy’s 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-2), (10-6) win in the No. 1 flight over Welch.
The Jags will be back in action April 22-24 when they host the Sun Belt Conference tournament at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
