MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team will take on Austin Peay Friday at 2 p.m. on the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
“Austin Peay is a good team who played in the NCAA tournament last year,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “This is a busy stretch for us. Hopefully we can set a good tone by being disciplined, focused and showing some pride on Friday.”
The Lady Governors lead the all-time series with the Jaguars 1-0. In their first meeting last season USA fell 5-0 to Austin Peay at home.
South Alabama (0-3) enters the match looking for the first win of their spring campaign. On Feb. 26 the Jaguars dropped a tough 7-0 decision to Lamar at home.
USA’s No. 1, junior Alina Volman (Lugansk, Ukraine), holds a 1-2 singles record in dual matches so far this year.
Junior Chané Hines (Johannesburg, South Africa) and sophomore Jess Courtnell (Newcastle, England) are undefeated in doubles action this spring.
The Lady Govs are 5-4 in dual matches after dropping a close 4-3 match to Kennesaw State on March 7.
Vanja Tomic boasts a 7-2 record on the spring at No. 1 singles this season, while Kimberly Loo holds the same record in the No. 4 spot.
The Lady Govs are undefeated at No. 1 doubles. Loo is also Austin Peay’s top doubles competitor with a 9-0 overall record and a 6-0 record in dual matches in the No. 1 flight.
