BOCA RATON, Fla.
–The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team was edged 5-2 by No. 62 Boston University despite wins by Chané Hines (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Alina Volman (Lugansk, Ukraine).

In doubles action the Terriers (7-4) picked up wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts to secure the first point of the match. The Jags’ Volman teamed up with senior Katie Welch (Mobile, Ala.) to top Stefanie Nunic and Vivien Laszloffy 9-7.

“The top of the lineup did a great job today,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “They had great energy and emotion. Hines and Volman played some quality tennis and got some good wins.”

The Jags (1-4) put points on the board with straight-sets wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. Volman downed Laszloffy 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot while Hines defeated Monika Mical 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 3 position.

At No. 1 singles USA’s Welch dropped the first set to Nunic 6-1 before retiring. The Terriers’ other three points came at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 spots in straight sets.
