MOBILE, Ala. --- The 2010 regular season for the University of South Alabama women’s tennis team comes to an end Sunday when the Jaguars host Louisiana at Lafayette at 11 a.m.
The Jags (1-11) hope to finish the year on a high note and snap an eight-match overall losing streak, facing off against the Ragin’ Cajuns who have won four of their last six matches.
It will be USA’s first action on the court since a 6-1 loss to Georgia State on April 4.
South Alabama holds a 21-2 advantage in the series history and has met Louisiana at Lafayette more times than any other opponent since records were kept in 1980. USA has won 17 straight since a loss in 1990.
Despite the losing streak, the Jaguars have been successful at the top of the singles lineup, winning five of six possible matches at the top two spots in the lineup. Junior
Katie Welch is 3-0 in that span (2-0 at No. 1 and 1-0 at No. 2) and has won her last four outings overall. Sophomore
Marie Boura is 2-1 in her last three matches, including 2-0 at the No. 2 flight.
ULL’s
Julie Mazinova has a 13-3 mark at No. 2 singles and teams up with
Mia Gordon at the top doubles flight for a 10-3 ledger, second-best in the Sun Belt Conference (min. 10 matches).
Admission to all South Alabama home matches is free.
