MOBILE, Ala. - After completing the first round, late afternoon showers coupled with lightning and darkness halted the second round of the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational. Second-round play will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, followed by the final round.
Florida International leads after round one with a 13-over par team score of 301. Troy finished the first round in second just one stroke behind FIU, and Stetson sits in third after a 15-over par team score of 303.
Four players representing three schools are tied for the individual lead after round one. Stetson's Alex Buelow (36-37) and Lauren Cate (37-36), Winthrop's Kayla Cline (33-40) and FIU's Cristina Marin (35-38) all shot 73 in the first round to finish one-over par.
USA concluded first-round play in a three-way tie for eighth with Jacksonville State and West Florida, who all shot 28-over par for team scores of 316.
South Alabama freshman Fanny Eineren (37-40) leads the Lady Jaguars after a first-round score of 77, and is currently tied for 16th. The Kullavik, Sweden, native carded consecutive birdies on the par-five sixth and par-four seventh, and finished the round with 11 pars. Senior Claudia Wolf (41-39) turned in a first-round 79, and sits in a tie for 27th despite being just six shots off the lead. Wolf birdied the par-five 15th, and finished with 11 pars in the opening round.
"Top to bottom, one through five, we were just mediocre," USA head coach T.J. Jackson said. "We're only 15 shots out of the lead, and we still have time to make up that difference. The conditions of the course and weather is a huge factor, but as golfers at this level, we have to be prepared for any conditions and any type of weather. I think the girls are doing a good job of gutting it out and giving it their all, and our plan tomorrow is to just continue what we've been doing.
"Our scores in the first weren't awful, but it's not where we need to be to compete for championships. We're not that far away, but we have to get the ball in the hole quicker.
