USA WOMEN'S TENNIS DROPS MATCH TO AUSTIN PEAY 5-0

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team dropped their match 5-0 to Austin Peay Wednesday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

“It stings to see how far we’ve fallen as a program in the last three to four months,” USA head coach Jaco Keyser said. “Regardless of the situation, it’s just unacceptable to not even be able to compete with Austin Peay. I hope today’s loss stings for everyone involved and motivates us to never put ourselves in this situation again.”

In singles the Lady Govs swept the Jaguars in straight sets. On the No. 1 court junior Katie Welch fell to Vanja Tomic in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, followed by freshman Jess Courtnell’s 6-4, 6-2 loss at No. 4 to Michelle Liew. At the No. 3 flight Chané Hines was downed by Mariana Pagan, clinching the match for the APSU.

Austin Peay earned a win at the No. 6 spot by default.

Because of inclement weather no doubles matches were played.

The Jags will be back in action Saturday at 11 a.m. at home against Tulane. Admission to all home matches is free.
