USA WOMEN'S TENNIS PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF SEASON AGAINST UNO 4-3

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team improved its record to 1-3 with a 4-3 win over Sun Belt Conference foe New Orleans Wednesday on the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

“This is one of the more satisfying wins we’ve had in the last ten years,” USA head coach Jaco Keyser said. “The reason being that we’ve got to work really hard for everything we get right now. Hopefully, this will reestablish the culture of hard work and discipline.”

In doubles competition, Jaguar veteran Katie Welch paired with newcomer Chané Hines to defeat UNO’s Kozue Matsumoto and Cassandra Escobar 8-4 at the No. 1 position. Marie Boura and Jess Courtnell followed on the No. 2 court with an 8-4 win over Kristina Martic and Sofija Karalic to clinch the doubles point for South Alabama.

Hines dominated Martic and No. 3 singles in a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Welch followed with a 7-6 (7-0), 6-3 win over the Privateers’ Matsumoto on the No. 1 court. Boura took the match for USA with her 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Escobar at the No. 2 position.

The Jags will head to Blacksburg, Va. on March 6 to take on Louisville at 11 a.m.
