MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama’s
Martino Brock has been named the Sun Belt Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Brock, a freshman forward from Memphis, Tenn., earns the award for the first time in his young career.
Brock played a major part in South Alabama’s two wins last week, averaging 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds. He recorded a double-double in each game, pouring in 18 points and 12 rebounds in the overtime win over Florida International and followed that up with 19 points and a career-high 13 rebounds Saturday vs. Louisiana at Lafayette.
He scored the winning points Saturday on a put-back with 22 seconds left in the contest. Against the Golden Panthers, Brock tied his career high with four steals and two blocks.
Brock ranks second on the team in both scoring (12.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg).
