MEN'S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES STAFF PROMOTIONS

MOBILE, Ala. --- University of South Alabama men’s basketball head coach Ronnie Arrow has announced staff changes for the 2009-10 year.

Following the departure of Andy Helton to Eastern New Mexico, assistant coach Chuck Taylor has been promoted to associate head coach and Michael Floyd is now the first assistant.

Both coaches are entering their third season at South Alabama and served under Arrow at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The pair have been a part of two straight 20-win seasons and also served as head coaches on the junior-college level.

“For what we’ve been able to accomplish as a program the last few years, I feel really good about promoting Chuck and Michael,” said Arrow. “They are not only good x’s-and-o’s coaches but they have been able to bring the players along and maximize their potential. Their efforts have been very much appreciated and noticed.”

Taylor arrived at South Alabama in 2007 after a one-year stint at North Texas that saw the Mean Green win the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Prior to that he was the head coach at Richland (Texas) Junior College where he guided the Thunderducks to a 24-8 mark.

Floyd, a Mobile native, was a two-year letterwinner at USA from 1994-96 playing for Arrow. After leading Alabama Southern Community College to an 18-12 record as a head coach in 2005-06, he spent one season at TAMU-CC before returning to Mobile in 2007.
