SEBaseball Names Jag Trio All-Conference

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama baseball players Adam Heisler and David Doss were named first-team all-conference by SEBaseball.com, as announced by the internet publication Monday.

Additionally, Derek O'Reilly earned an honorable mention selection. The senior shortstop led the conference with a .426 batting average in league play, and finished the year with a .354 overall batting average and 16 stolen bases.

“I’m really happy for Derek O'Reilly,” head coach Steve Kittrell said. “He certainly deserved to be on the all-conference team because he was one of the best shortstops in the league last year, both offensively and defensively.”

Heisler, who was previously named second-team all-conference by the league’s coaches, ranked fifth in the Sun Belt with a .390 batting average and tied for seventh with 16 stolen bases. He led the Jags with a .441 on-base percentage, and he led the Sun Belt Conference with 50 hits in league play.

A unanimous first-team selection, Doss hit .378 and led the USA team with 12 home runs and 59 RBI. During his senior season, Doss became the Jags’ all-time leader in hits, RBI, doubles and at-bats.

“It’s nice to see Adam get recognized on the first team because he definitely had a season worthy of that honor,” Kittrell said. “David Doss certainly deserved to be on the first team as well.”

Heisler was selected in the 45th round of the 2009 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, but he is expected to return to South Alabama for his senior season. Doss was selected in the 31st round by the Philadelphia Phillies. He is playing in the minor leagues with the Phillies’ rookie league team, the Williamsport Crosscutters.
