USA Baseball Adds Travis Corley For 2010

MOBILE, Ala. ? Junior college right-handed pitcher Travis Corley has signed a national letter-of-intent to play baseball at the University of South Alabama, head coach Steve Kittrell announced Monday.

Corley, a product of Bay Minette, Ala., played the past two seasons for head coach Wayne Larker at Faulkner State Community College. As a sophomore in 2009, Corley led the Sun Chiefs with an 8-1 record and a 2.99 ERA in 75.1 innings pitched. He also pitched four complete games, posted one save and struck out 51 batters with only 16 walks.

“We very excited Travis chose to play at South Alabama,” Kittrell said. “He finished the year strong for Faulkner State, he competes really well on the mound, and he commands three pitches for strikes. We’re looking for him to throw a lot of innings for us next year.”

Corley ranked fifth in ERA and walks per nine innings in the Alabama Community College Conference. He also ranked seventh in the league with eight wins and 11th with 2.29 runs allowed per game. Additionally, the ACCC named him first team all-Southern League and second team all-region.

On May 11, he picked up the win in the Sun Chiefs’ upset of Wallace State-Hanceville in the opening round of the ACCC tournament by allowing just two runs on five hits in eight innings of work.

A two-year letterwinner, Corley leaves Faulkner State with a career 11-5 record and a 3.78 ERA in 109.2 innings pitched. He’ll join the Jags for the 2010 season and will have two years of collegiate eligibility remaining.

Corley follows a long line of players to join the USA program from Faulkner State. Adam Heisler joined the Jags in 2009 after playing two seasons at Faulkner State, and Brandon Sage played the 2006 season with the Sun Chiefs before joining the USA program from 2007-2009.
