USA SOFTBALL GETS KNOCKED OUT OF SUN BELT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

DENTON, Texas ? The University of South Alabama softball team fell to Western Kentucky 3-1 Friday at Lovelace Stadium. The sixth-seeded Jags concluded their season with an overall record of 27-28-1.

 

No. 3 WKU (34-18) pulled ahead 2-0 in the third when Shannon Smith was brought home on a Sam Cronk double to left field. Cronk scored the second run on a Terri Ellingsworth at-bat.

 

Kelsey McCauley extended the Lady Toppers to 3-0 in the fourth when she homered to right field. McCauley went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.

 

In the bottom of the seventh, freshman Christin Crocker hit a home run to left center to put the final score at 3-1. The home run marks her seventh of the season and just the second in program history in post-season play. Crocker went 1-for-3 with one run scored.

 

Beth Pilgrim (17-14) took the loss for the Jags with six strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Ryan Rogge (26-9) notched the win after going the distance with four strikeouts.
