MOBILE, Ala. --- University of South Alabama head men’s basketball coach
Ronnie Arrow has announced the signing of
Martino Brock to a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Jaguars for the 2009-10 season.
Brock, a 6-5, 205 guard/forward, is a native of Memphis, Tenn. and currently attends Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine.
In his only season at MCI, Brock averaged 18.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. His scoring average was tops on the team as he led the Huskies to a 14-13 record.
“What we have in Martino is one of the best athletes that we’ll put out on the court,” said Arrow. “He really likes to pressure the ball and play hard-nosed defense. He’s a scorer that will definitely fit into our scheme with his athletic ability and desire to play on the other end of the floor. Anybody that plays defense like he does can be contagious with the other players.”
Brock joins
P.J. Reyes,
Rob Phillips,
Raymond Sims,
Tim Williams,
Augustine Rubit,
Javier Carter and
Andre Gowins in next year’s class. Rubit, Carter and Gowins signed in November.
South Alabama went 20-13 last season and advanced to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game. The Jaguars have won 20 or more games in each of the last four seasons and have made three trips to the NCAA postseason during that time.
