LAFAYETTE, La. --- The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team won its seventh straight match Sunday, shutting out Louisiana-Lafayette 7-0 at Cajun Courts.
The Jaguars improve to 10-3 while the Ragin’ Cajuns fall to 8-11.
“It was a solid win against an always-tough Sun Belt opponent,” said USA head coach
Jaco Keyser. “We played some of our worst doubles today mixed with some of our best singles of the year.”
USA swept doubles play, led by the 47th-ranked tandem of seniors
Michaela Babicova (Piestany, Slovakia) and
Sylvanie Spangenberg (Pretoria, South Africa). The pair won 9-7 over
Julie Mazinova and
Mia Gordon.
Five of the six singles matches were settled in just two sets. Sophomore
Erica Krisan (Marietta, Ga.) extended her winning streak to nine with a 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 over Angela Dangond.
Babicova needed a 10-point tiebreaker to defeat Mazinova at No. 2 5-7, 6-2, (10-7), ending Mazinova’s eight-match win streak.
“We have a chance on Tuesday to work on our doubles again and try to get everything clicking for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament,” said Keyser.
South Alabama plays at Troy Tuesday afternoon.
