OXFORD, Miss. ? Ana Garcia’s final-round 76 paced the University of South Alabama to an 11th place finish at the Rebel Intercollegiate Sunday at the Country Club of Oxford.
Garcia improved on her score in each round. She shot 83 in the opening round Friday, then followed that with a 79 before Sunday’s 76. Her overall score of 238 placed her in a tie for 37th individually.
Shirley Harvey shot a five-over-par 77 to finish the tournament tied for 11th with a 12-over 228. She turned in the Lady Jags’ best round of the tournament with a two-over-par 74 on Saturday.
Darah Newell fired her best round with a 79 Sunday, while Nina Offenberg shot an 83 and Claudia Wolf rounded out USA’s scorecard with an 86.
After finishing the first round in 12th, the Lady Jags moved up one spot to 11th with Saturday’s 316. However, even by shooting their best team round of the tournament, the Lady Jags were unable to make up any more ground, and they finished two strokes behind Memphis in 10th.
Tulane took the team championship, while Ole Miss’ Dori Carter defeated the Green Wave’s Linn Gustafsson on the first playoff hole to take medalist honors.
