JAGUAR SOFTBALL FALLS 3-2 TO WESTERN KENTUCKY

MOBILE, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama softball team (26-24-1, 10-10 SBC) fell 3-2 to Western Kentucky in a close matchup at Jaguar Field Sunday afternoon.

 

WKU (28-17, 12-9 SBC) put up the first run of the game in the second inning when Rebecca Horesky homered to left center. Horesky came back in the fourth with her second home run of the day to left field to put the Lady Toppers up 2-0. Horesky went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.

 

In the bottom of the fourth, Kait Chernomaz tied the game at 2-2 when she hit a two-run home run to left center that plated pinch runner Kelsey Volz. Chernomaz was the top Jaguar hitter, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored.

 

The Lady Toppers edged a 3-2 lead in the fifth after Brook Reed came home unearned when Terri Ellingsworth reached on a Jaguar error.

 

Beth Pilgrim (16-11) took the loss for the Jags after pitching seven innings with four strikeouts. Ryan Rogge (22-8) notched the win with five strikeouts in seven innings of work.

 

USA will return to action Saturday May 2, when it heads to Troy, Ala., to face the Trojans in its final series of the season. The double header is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
