BATON ROUGE ? South Alabama thrower Joey Torres set a personal best and earned a fourth-place finish in the discus Saturday at the LSU Relays.
Torres, a freshman from Navarre, Fla., threw 50.87m/166-11 on his second throw in the event, which marked an improvement of more than six meters from his performance last weekend at Southern Miss. His throw on Saturday was less than one meter shy of the NCAA regional-qualifying standard, and his second top-five finish in as many weeks.
“There were some positives this weekend,” USA head coach Paul Brueske said. “We just have to keep working hard and focus on getting better.”
USA returns to action next weekend with a two-day meet at the Florida Relays, April 3-4, in Gainesville, Fla.
