MURFREESBORO, Tenn. ? The University of South Alabama softball team fell 1-0 to Middle Tennessee late in the seventh inning Sunday afternoon at Blue Raider Field.
USA (15-16-1, 2-4 SBC) was shutout by Kellie Head (1-2), who struck out six Jags along the way. Three Jags went 1-for-3 at the plate in the game.
Despite the loss, Beth Pilgrim (9-8) struck out seven Blue Raiders in 6.2 innings of work.
MTSU (6-17, 1-5 SBC) scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when Kelsey Dortch hit an infield single to advance Caitlin Mclure to third base, who came home on a Jaguar throw to second.
USA won the weekend series 2-1 after sweeping Saturdays doubleheader in which it outscored the Blue Raiders 19-0. It’s the first time the Jags have won a league series on the road since taking two of three contests at Troy on May 5-6, 2007.
Jaguar softball will return home to play Tuesday in a 6 p.m. matchup against Southeastern Louisiana.
