MOBILE, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama men’s tennis team clinched the win over Georgia Southern, 4-1, just before the rain came down ending the match Sunday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

“We started very strong in doubles and that's the key against teams like Georgia Southern,” said USA head coach Nick Brochu. “If you have a very strong start, you get the momentum and can carry that out into singles and that's what we did. That was our strategy today.”

The Jaguars (7-7) swept the doubles competition to catch a quick 1-0 lead over the Eagles (5-3). USA pairs Romain Bocaert/Hanno Bartsch, Dauw Kruger/Leo Dominguez and Aaron Krisan/Marek Sramek all defeated their competition setting the pace for the day.

“Today we had some different doubles teams but the chemistry was good,” said Brochu. “Winning all three doubles was good. We wanted to make a statement and that's what we did.”

In singles action the Jags picked up three quick wins in straight sets at the No. 6, No. 3 and No. 2 positions to clinch the victory. South Alabama’s only loss came on the No. 4 court. The last two matches of the day were cut short by inclement weather leaving the score 4-1 in favor of the Jaguars.

Next USA will travel to Idaho for the Boise State Invitational on March 27-28.
