MOBILE, Ala.? The Lady Jags defeated the Sycamores of Indiana State 6-1 Thursday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

In doubles action South Alabama (6-3) started the morning with an advantage winning No. 3 doubles by default. USA swept the remaining doubles matches to give the Lady Jags a 2-0 lead.

South Alabama’s Katie Welch and Erica Krisan set the pace, beating the Sycamores’ Elmie Botes and Aleksandra Dzakula 8-1. The 54th-ranked Jaguar tandem of Michaela Babicova and Sylvanie Spangenberg followed with a quick 8-2 victory over Anna Morgina and Sofya Lifanova.

USA continued to dominate in singles play, losing only on the No. 1 court. Lady Jags Welch, Parija Maloo and Alina Volman won their matches in straight sets. Krisan lost her first set to Sarah Meghoufel, but came back to win the match 6-7, 7-5, 10-3.

South Alabama women’s tennis will hit the road Saturday to take on Sun Belt Conference rival Middle Tennessee.
