TALLAHASSEE, Fla.? The 70th-ranked University of South Alabama men’s tennis team fell

5-2 to the 17th-ranked Florida State Seminoles on Sunday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

In doubles the Jaguars (1-4) split the first two matches with the Seminoles (6-2).  USA’s Marek Sramek and Romain Bacaert lost at the No. 1, 8-5 while Jags’ Sergio Ramirez and Leo Dominguez defeated FSU’s 47th-ranked duo of Drew Bailey and Maciek Sykut 8-3.

"We started strong in doubles," Head Coach Nick Brochu said, "but we just couldn't finish. We proved we could play with one of the top teams in the country, which is good for our confidence." 

The doubles point came down to court three where Dauw Kruger and Hanno Bartsch lost to Chris Reiman and Vahid Mirzadeh, 8-5.

In singles play FSU secured the win quickly, winning the first three matches. The biggest upset of the day came on court one where Ramirez took No. 30 Jean-Yves Aubone in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.  South Alabama got its second point at the No. 3 position when Bocaert downed No. 79 Sykut 7-6, 2-6, 1-0(9). 

The Jaguars return home on Feb. 19 to take on Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m.
