MOBILE, Ala. ? Nina Offenberg’s 152 (78-74) paced the University of South Alabama women’s golf team to a two-round total of 624 Saturday, placing it in a tie for sixth place heading to the final round at McNeese State’s Koasati Pines Collegiate Classic.
“We had some positives today with Nina (Offenberg) and Darah (Newell) both shooting 74,” head coach T.J. Jackson said. “The girls really battled through some tough conditions and some tough greens.”
Newell shot a 36-hole total of 156 (82-74), while Claudia Wolf added a 157 (78-79) and Ana Garcia rounded out the scorecard with a 159 (80-79).
Offenberg’s 152 placed her in 10th place individually, four strokes back of co-leaders Sydney Liles (Texas State) and Channing Norton (Lamar). Newell is in a two-way tie for 20th, and Wolf is tied for 22nd.
McNeese State’s 615 leaves it with a two-shot advantage heading to the final day at its home course. UTSA is in second, while Central Arkansas is three strokes back in third.
USA plays 18 holes Sunday, then heads home to host the 2009 Lady Jaguar Invitational at Azalea City Golf Course March 2-3.
