MOBILE, Ala. ? The 74th-ranked University of South Alabama men's tennis team dominated Sun Belt rival Troy 6-1 Thursday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

“We wanted to win the doubles point in order to take control of the match,” head coach Nick Brochu said. “It gave the guys enough momentum that carried over in to singles and helped them win five out of six matches.”

South Alabama started strong in doubles play, winning two of the three doubles matches. Jaguar duo Sergio Ramirez and Leo Dominguez defeated Branko Weber and Mario Silva of Troy 8-2 at the No. 1 position.  On the No. 3 court Hanno Bartsch and Dauw Kruger beat Aurelien Tave and Guilherme Sahadi 9-7.

The Jags continued to dominate in singles action with four matches won in straight sets, including all in the top three flights. No. 66 Sergio Ramirez held on to his undefeated status, beating the Trojans’ Weber 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 2 position. Marek Sramek, Romain Bacaert, Aaron Krisan, and Bartsch defeated their Trojan counterparts, sealing a 6-1 victory.

Next USA will head to Corpus Christi, Texas to participate in the HEB Invitational.
