Scot Sealy Returns to South Alabama as Pitching Coach

MOBILE, Ala. ? USA baseball head coach Steve Kittrell named Scot Sealy as the Jags’ pitching coach and co-recruiting coordinator Wednesday. Sealy returns to USA after spending the past three seasons as head coach at Alabama Southern Community College.  He replaces Jason Jackson, who took a position at Florida Atlantic.

“I’m extremely excited about Scot coming back to South Alabama. He wanted to go off and get some head coaching experience, and I think that was a good move. He ran his own pitching staff there and did a great job, and I think he’s going to be a great fit,” Kittrell said. “He knows our system, he knows the players, and he’s got a great baseball mind. This is a very fortunate thing for us to be able to get him back.”

Sealy led the Eagles to a 39-15 record and an ACCC South Conference championship in 2008. In three seasons, his teams compiled a record of 124-43, won two Southern Conference titles, and were twice nationally ranked. His 2007 squad was ranked as high as sixth in the nation.

Prior to coaching ASCC, Sealy was an assistant coach on Kittrell’s staff from 2001 to 2005. He coached infielders and catchers, while also serving as recruiting coordinator. This time around, he’ll coach pitchers, while also assisting in recruiting with current assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Seth Von Behren.

“We’ve been very successful in the three years I’ve been at Alabama Southern, but the timing of this is outstanding,” Sealy said. “It gives us the chance to come back home, and it gives me the chance to go back and work with coach Kittrell.”

A Satsuma, Ala. native, Sealy played at South Alabama during the 1992 season. He started 56 of 58 games and hit .300 with five homers and 30 RBI on his way to being named second-team all-Sun Belt Conference. Sealy began his collegiate career at Faulkner State Junior College, where he was named to all-state and all-division squads in 1991.

A 10th-round selection of the Texas Rangers in the 1992 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Sealy played minor league ball until 1999. He worked his way up to the Seattle Mariners’ Class AAA affiliate in 1997. Sealy played three seasons with the Tacoma Rainiers, before accepting a scouting job with the previously-named Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

“This is a great opportunity to come back as a pitching coach and help with recruiting, and to help coach Kittrell get South Alabama back to where it needs to be,” Sealy said. “He’s just a tremendous man of integrity and great character, and I’m excited to come back and work with him.”

Sealy is married to the former Terra Foster of Saraland, Ala. They have two thirteen-year-old children, Peyton Thrasher and Lauren, and a Lab named Jag.
