FORMER USA SUN BELT TRACK CHAMPION SCHEDULED TO COMPETE IN THE BEIJING OLYMPICS

MOBILE, Ala. - Former South Alabama standout, Ajoke Odumosu, will compete for Nigeria in the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing. She is slated to run in the 400 meter Saturday, Aug.16 and also compete in the 4x400 meter relay scheduled for Friday, Aug. 22. Odumosu is the first South Alabama track athlete to ever compete in the Olympics.

Odumosu won gold at the African Championships in the 400mH with a time of 55.92 seconds to qualify for the Olympic team.

The Nigerian 4x400m relay team, consists of Folashade Abugan, Joy Amechi Eze, Endurance Abinuwa and Oluoma Nwoke. Gladys Stephen and Odumosu are listed as alternates for the relay team.

During her career at South Alabama, Odumosu was the first Jag female to be named an Outdoor All-American, garnering the honor in 2007. The Lagos, Nigeria native was a Sun Belt Champion in the 400mH in 2004, 2006 and 2007 and a three-time NCAA championship qualifier. She ran in the 400mH NCAA Championship Finals in 2006 and 2007.

Odumosu still holds outdoor records in the 400m and 400mH, and indoor records in the 400m and 4x400m relay.
