MOBILE, Ala. ? Led by senior netters Jelena Krivacevic and Adrianna Solarova, playing in their final home match, the 47th-ranked South Alabama women’s tennis team captured a 4-1 victory over Sun Belt Conference foe Troy Thursday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. The final two singles matches were not completed due to rain.
The Jaguar women (16-3) will close out the regular season on nine days from now when they take on Florida Atlantic (April 12) and Florida International (April 13). USA is 6-0 against Sun Belt foes in dual match play this season and end the season 11-1 at home. Troy drops to 8-8 on the spring with the loss.
South Alabama came out and took the early momentum, sweeping all three doubles matches. Krivacevic and her partner Erica Krisan cruised past Troy’s team of Carolina Jounia/Stephanie Vieria, 8-2 at the no. 3 position. USA’s Michaela Babicova and Katie Welch then sealed the point with an 8-3 win of their own at No. 2 over Mirte De Bakker/Leonie Guijt of Troy and Solarova and Sylvanie Spangenberg completed the sweep for the Jags when the duo outlasted the Trojans’ team of Rawia El Sisi and Annabelle Bares, 9-7 at No. 1.
The Jags kept it going in the singles competition, picking up three of the four finished matches. Krivacevic overpowered Jounia at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1) to give USA a 2-0 lead in the match. Troy’s De Bakkar finally got the Trojans on the board with a straight set win of her own, but Spangenberg and Solarova clinched the match with straight set wins of their own at the Nos. 5 and 1 positions, respectively, to clinch the win for the Jags.
