JAGS THROW ONE-HITTER, POUND OUT 19 HITS IN 18-0 WIN OVER JACKSON STATE

Official Box Score

MOBILE, Ala. -- Four South Alabama pitchers combined on a one-hitter, while the Jaguar batters teed off on a season-high 19 hits in an 18-0 rout of Jackson State Tuesday night at Stanky Field. The game was called after seven innings due to the mercy rule.

The offensive attack featured a season-high six home runs, including the first career shots for Derek O'Reilly to lead off the second and by Brad Hammac in the third. O'Reilly also homered in the fourth, a three-run shot, while Ryne Jernigan, Sean Laird and Jake Overstreet hit round-trippers, as well.

Laird finished 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs, while O'Reilly had three hits and four runs batted in. Overstreet also had three hits, while scoring three times and driving in a pair.

Eleven different Jaguars had at least one hit, while three of their top five hitters -- David Doss, Ryan Bohanan and Bunky Kateon -- were given the night off.

For the second time this year, South Alabama (23-18) scored in each of the first six innings in a game, joining the Arkansas State contest on March 28. The Jaguars scored three runs in the fourth, two in the second and four in the third, before the Tigers had their first hit, an infield single in the fourth.

USA added five in the fourth and four in the fifth before a scoreless sixth that included relief pitcher Travis Johnson taking a turn as a pinch hitter.

Kevin Nabors, who missed his Saturday start after becoming ill minutes before the contest, retired all six batters he faced to improve to 4-3. He was followed on the mound by Chris LaGrow, who gave up one hit and two walks in three innings of work. Daniel McDonald and Jake LeBlanc each pitched a scoreless inning in his first collegiate appearance.

"We have played so many games that have been 5-4 or things like that, so it is kind of nice to get one where you are way ahead," Head Coach Steve Kittrell said. "We really swung the bats well and we need to do that against tomorrow night (against Alabama)."

South Alabama wraps up its five-game homestand tomorrow night at 6 p.m. against the Crimson Tide at Stanky Field. The Jaguars are 3-4 against Southeastern Conference members this year.
