LADY JAGS ADD PETERSON TO RECRUITING CLASS

MOBILE, Ala. ? University of South Alabama women’s basketball head coach Rick Pietri announced Thursday that Sarda Peterson (pronounced Sar-day) has signed her national letter of intent to play for the Lady Jags in 2008-09.

Peterson becomes the fifth member of this year’s recruiting class, joining early signing period signees, Vontrice Dennis (Miami, Fla.), Lauren Walker (Cabot, Ark.), Tashley Gaines (West Memphis, Ark.) and Cylenthia “Ce Ce” Kennon (Chalkville, Ala.).

"Sarda is an exceptionally quick and fast point guard who led her high school team to the 3A state championship game in Florida this season,” Pietri said.  “She handles well with either hand, has deep shooting range and is a fearless competitor.  She'll be a great addition to our program."

Peterson, a 5-6 point guard, lettered this past season for Dunbar High School in Fort Myers, Fla., and guided the Tigers to a 25-3 and a runner up finish in the Class 3A State Championships.  During her senior season, Peterson averaged 13.2 ppg, 8.7 apg and 3.3 rpg, earning Second Team All-State honors.  She also led the area in assists as a senior and recently was listed as the 64th best player in Florida by HoopGurlz.com.

Prior to transferring to Dunbar for her senior season, Peterson was a two-time all-area player at Fort Myers High School where she averaged 15 ppg and 5 apg.

This past season the Lady Jags finished with a 20-11 mark.
