USA TENNIS GETS STRONG WIN AT HOME AGAINST SELA

MOBILE, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama men’s tennis team started a four-game homestand with an impressive, 5-2, performance over Southeastern Louisiana at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts, Wednesday. With the win, the 62nd ranked Jaguars moved to 4-6 on the year, while SELA fell to 10-3.

“It felt good to play at home and get the win,” head tennis coach Nick Brochu said. “We had a very strong day in doubles which continued over in singles and I am happy that Jack and R.J. played like captains, winning the first singles match and closing the overall match.”

Every match this season where the Jaguars have won the doubles point they have proved victorious. Today was no exception, as Jack Baker and R.J. Nagel dominated Ondrej Krivka and Matthieu Leboucher (8-2), while Robert Hodel and Marek Sramek defeated Vladimir Paunic and Medhi Darlis, 8-3.

On the singles side, ninth ranked Jack Baker defeated Matthieu Leboucher in impressive fashion (6-0, 6-0). The match between Baker and Leboucher lasted just 45 minutes. Marek Sramek was winning 7-5 before Vladimir Paunic had to retire and R.J. Nagel (6-1, 6-1) and Roger Hodel also played extremely strong defeating Ondrej Krivka and Julien Roussel. The only losses for the Jaguars were Aaron Krisan (no.5) and a default at the number six position.

“It was nice to have a none stressful win and we need to get ready for another conference match,” Brochu added. “It is going to be important to get a quick start as that has been the key this season.”

South Alabama will have a quick turn around as they welcome in Sun Belt Conference member Troy to the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis courts at 1 p.m., Friday. The match is free and open to the public and tournament results can be accessed at usajaguars.com
