Albuquerque, N.M. ? The University of South Alabama men’s tennis team continued its winning steak with a 4-2 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Lobo Tennis Club, Thursday. For the fifth straight match, the Jags dominated on the doubles courts, picking up the first point. The new duo of R.J. Nagel and Jack Baker won their fourth straight doubles match, 8-5, and Robert Hodel and Marek Sramek won, 8-3.
“Once again we put an emphasis on doubles and starting out strong, which we did today,” head tennis coach Nick Brochu said. “We played very strong on both doubles courts.”
On the singles side, 15th ranked Baker won the second point for USA defeating Laurent Montoisy, 7-5 (6) 6-1. Nagel then put South up 3-0 after knocking off Jose Zunino, 6-1 6-1. Marek Sramek clinched the match with a, 7-5 6-3, victory over Mikhail Pavlov.
“Corpus is a very explosive team in singles and there were tough battles in the first sets, but we didn’t give them a chance to get back in the match,” Brochu added.
South Alabama will take the courts again soon as they stay in New Mexico to take on the home court Lobos at 2 p.m., Friday.
