MOBILE, Ala. ? The South Alabama women’s tennis team saw its 11-match win streak come to an end Thursday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts as the Jags fell 5-2 to Indiana State.
For the first time this season, South Alabama (11-1) fell down early in the match (1-0) when the Jaguar women dropped the doubles point for the first time this spring. USA’s Michaela Babicova and Katie Welch picked up a dominant 8-0 win at No. 2, but Indiana State rallied to pick up an 8-3 win at No. 1 and an 8-6 win at No. 3 to seal the point. USA’s team of Adrianna Solarova and Sylvanie Spangenberg also suffered its first doubles loss of the season at the No. 1 spot.
Indiana State (2-5) continued to ride the momentum from the doubles victory and took four out of the six singles matches en route to the 5-2 win. Fadzai Maslyazi clinched the match victory for the Lady Sycamores when she defeated USA’s Welch (7-6, 6-4) at the No. 4 position.
South Alabama’s lone two singles victories against ISU came from Spangenberg and Jelena Krivacevic at the Nos. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.
USA will now take a seven-day break before returning to action to close out its six-match homestand against UALR on March 20 at 1 p.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
