JAGUAR WOMEN OPEN 2008 SPRING SEASON UP WITH DOMINANT 6-1 VICTORY OVER SELU

MOBILE, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team opened up the 2008 spring portion of its schedule Sunday afternoon with a dominant 6-1 victory over Southeastern Louisiana at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

 

The Jaguar women (1-0) will continue its current homestand, when they host North Florida Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.  The match will be part of a rare men’s and women’s simultaneous match with the Ospreys.  The Lady Lions fall to 0-1 with the loss.

 

USA came out and grabbed the early 1-0 match lead, picking up wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions.  South Alabama’s team of Jelena Krivacevic and Erica Krisan got things started with an 8-3 win at the No. 3 spot.  Krivacevic and Krisan trailed 3-2 early on in the match, but reeled off the final six games, to defeat SELU’s Bonnie Phillips and Jana Simurkova.  At the No. 2 position, USA’s Adrianna Solarova and Sylvanie Spangenberg also rallied from an early deficit to clinch the point for the Jags with an 8-6 victory over the Lady Lions team of Emilija Arnaudovska/Iva Velkovska.

 

The lone loss for USA in the doubles portion of the match came at the No. 1 spot where the Jags’ 28th-ranked doubles team of Michaela Babicova and Katie Welch were upset 8-7 and 7-3 in the tiebreaker by Southeastern Louisiana’s Nina Knavs and Breda Kovac.

 

In singles competition, South Alabama quickly sealed the match victory, picking up straight set wins at the Nos. 6, 2 and 4 spots.  Babicova, ranked 44th in the nation, highlighted the day with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 performance at the No. 2 spot.  USA went on to take two of the final three singles matches en route to the 6-1 win.
