OXFORD, Miss. ? Coming off a five-match home stand in which the South Alabama women’s tennis remained perfect on the season, the Jags will now begin a two-match road swing this weekend in the “Magnolia State”. USA will open the road swing on Friday afternoon when the Jags take on Ole Miss at 2 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Due to the weather, there is a good chance the match will be moved indoors.
Live stats for the match versus Ole Miss will be available at www.olemisssports.com.
Following the match versus the Lady Rebels, South Alabama (5-0) will then take on No. 75 Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Starkville, Miss., at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
Junior Michaela Babicova leads the team with a 9-2 overall singles record and a 4-1 mark in dual match play, while senior Adrianna Solarova is 7-2 this season and Jelena Krivacevic is 6-1 in singles action. In doubles action, Solarova and Sylvanie Spangenberg are undefeated on the spring at 5-0.
In its last match, the South Alabama picked up a 5-2 victory over Winthrop in Mobile. Friday’s match will be the first road match of the season for USA. The Jags were supposed to have opened up the spring at Florida, but the match was rained out.
The Lady Rebels come in with a 4-3 record and are a perfect 4-0 at home. Ole Miss has already defeated two Sun Belt opponents this season, defeating Middle Tennessee, 6-1, and Troy, 7-0, in Oxford earlier this spring.
Ole Miss is coming off a tough 5-2 loss to No. 42 Iowa on the road last Sunday. The Lady Rebels had match points to clinch the doubles point and couldn’t convert, as Iowa carried that momentum into singles play, winning four of the matches.
Freshman Karen Nissen leads the team on the spring with a 6-1 mark.
