MOBILE, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama women’s tennis picked up its fourth straight win of the spring Friday afternoon when the 57th-ranked Lady Jags defeated Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana-Monroe 6-1 at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
South Alabama (4-0) will close out its current home stand Sunday afternoon when it hosts Winthrop University at 1:30 p.m. ULM drops to 3-3 on the season with the loss.
As they have the past few matches, the Jags had to forfeit one of the doubles matches due to injuries on the roster. However, also as it has done in those matches, USA dominated the remaining two spots to pick up the point. Sylvanie Spangenberg and Adrianna Solarova cruised at the No. 1 position with an 8-1 win over Arrondo/Lena Satge (ULM), and USA’s team of Erica Krisan/Michaela Babicova defeated the Warhawks’ Sharon Makhanya/Noelia Leon, 8-4.
In singles action, South Alabama kept up the momentum and quickly clinched the match victory by taking five of the six matches in straight sets. The lone defeat for the Jags was at the No. 6 spot where Claire Clark won in a walkover.
