MOBILE, Ala. ? The South Alabama women’s tennis team continued its hot streak after the Lady Jags put down Georgia State, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. USA was without Jalena Krivacevic and Katie Welch in singles and doubles because of injures, but fought back short handed to take the win.
In doubles action, the Jag duo of Michaela Babicova and Erica Krisan used a dominant performance at the No. 2 position, winning 8-2 over Panther netters Rachel Malina and Darvana Kozmina. USA’s Sylvanie Spangenberg and Adrianna Solarova then solidified the doubles point with an 8-6 victory of their own at the No. 1 position over Martina Nitkova and Katerina Gresova.
In singles play, South Alabama kept the momentum rolling as they won three of four matches. Adrianna Solarova defeated Darvana Kozmina (6-2, 6-2), Erica Krisan beat Rachel Malina (6-1, 6-4) and Slyvanie Spangenberg out matched Katerina Gresova (6-2, 7-6, 6-3). Michael Babicova was the only South Alabama netter that lost on the day, losing to Martina Nitkova (1-6, 6-1, 3-6).
South Alabama will next host fellow Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana-Monroe at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. Georgia State drops to 3-4 on the spring with the loss, while USA moved to 3-0.
