USA SOCCER LOSES FIRST GAME OF NORTHWESTERN STATE CLASSIC

NATCHITOCHES, La. ? The University of South Alabama soccer team loss 2-1 to Northwestern State, Friday night in the first of two games of the NSU Classic. This loss knocks the Jaguars record to 2-1, while the host Devils improved to 2-1 on the year.

 

Northwestern State put up two early goals in the first half, with goals coming from Bobbi Hayes and Erin Hebert. USA fought back and put the game within one goal on a Tiara Smith goal in the 72nd minute. Smith’s goal was her fifth on the season.

 

“It was an even played match, but we went down early to 2-0, and fought back. I was proud of the way the team fought back,” soccer head coach Mike Varga said. “We had some pretty good chances after getting the game within one , but overall I was happy with the total effort.

 

The Jags will conclude the Northwestern State Classic Sunday, with an 11:30 a.m. match against Lamar (0-3).
