LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? The University of South Alabama soccer team dropped a 2-0 game to UALR at Burns Park, Friday night. The Trojans improved to 6-4 on the year and 1-0 in conference play, while USA fell to 5-3-1 and 0-1.
“We started fairly well with a ball hitting the post in the first four minutes and overall it was an even match, UALR just capitalized on their chances,” head coach Mike Varga said. “Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and do the things we need to do to win.”
The high-powered Jaguar offense was not able to a goal by the UALR defense and goalie Jane Picarelli. Picarelli, finished with six saves on the night, five in the second half. The Trojans scored the only goal they needed in the 17th minute by Grace Rich. Little Rock increased their lead to 2-0 on a Jessica Beaver header off a corner kick in the 66th minute.
“We need to use a game like this to play better at Arkansas State Sunday,” Varga commented.
The Jaguars continue their road trip with a match against Arkansas State Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
