SOUTH ALABAMA SOCCER RECORDS 1-1 DRAW AT LION CLASSIC

HAMMOND, LA. ? The University of South Alabama soccer team recorded its first draw of the season 1-1 against Southeastern Louisiana in the final game of the Lion Classic Sunday. South Alabama’s record went to 5-2-1 on the season, while Southeastern went to 5-1-2 for the year.

The Jags got on the board early on a Liz Clark goal from Michelle Leppert and Tiara Smith in the seventh minute. Southeastern got the equalizing goal from Janae Sheldon in the 75th minute.

“We started the game well with an early goal, but seemed to get fatigued in the second half,” head coach Mike Varga said. “ We played well on offensive at times, but just could not convert the chances we were given.”

South Alabama opens conference play next weekend on the road with games against UALR and Arkansas State, Friday and Sunday.

“I think the girls are excited for the conference games and I look for them to come up strong and play well.”
