SOUTH ALABAMA FALLS 4-0 TO TOP-SEEDED FLORIDA ATLANTIC IN SECOND ROUND OF SBC TOURNEY

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. ? The University of South Alabama softball team ended its season with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Florida Atlantic Thursday afternoon in the second round of the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament held at Blue Raider Field.

FAU (37-23) advances on to take the loser of the Florida International/Middle Tennessee game on Friday at 12:30 p.m.  With the loss, USA finishes its inaugural season with a 36-23 mark.

The top-seeded Owls jumped out in front early, plating a pair of runs in the top of the second.  FAU first baseman Melissa Moore delivered a two-out single through the left side of the infield, scoring Blair Bodenmiller and Lauren Crandall, who had each singled earlier in the inning.

Already leading 2-0 heading into the third, Florida Atlantic added another run.  Bodenmiller again did the damage for the Owls when she hit a fly ball to right that went off Ashley Elmore’s glove.  On the play, Lopez, who had reached earlier in the inning on a Jag error, came around to score.

Florida Atlantic pushed its lead out to 4-0 in the fourth with a solo home run off the bat of Annie Voyles.  For Voyles, the shot to left was her second of the season.

Musillo, coming off a 15-inning performance in the opening round, went the distance for FAU to pick up the win and improve her record to 23-11.  The Owl hurler recorded five strike outs and held the Jags to just three hits.  Beth Pilgrim took the loss for South Alabama and falls to 10-8 on the season.

Mandie Fishback, the SBC Player of the Year, led the FAU offense on the afternoon with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.
