MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS UALR IN WEATHER-SHORTENED SBC SHOOTOUT

LAFAYETTE, La. ? The No. 26 South Alabama men’s tennis team defeated Arkansas-Little Rock in its only match in the Sun Belt Shootout on Saturday, 4-0.  The SBC Shootout was cancelled due to poor weather and a lack of an available indoor facility on Sunday.  With the win, the Jaguars improved to 17-4 on the season, while the Trojans fell to 18-7.

 

Playing singles first due to poor weather conditions, USA won four singles matches to clinch the win.  Top-seed senior Dias Doskarayev, ranked 56th in the latest ITA poll, defeated Dinko Halachev in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 and junior Jack Baker defeated Rain Roigas 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.  No. 42 sophomore Marek Sramek defeated Edson Abrao 7-6, 6-0 and junior Robert Hodel clinched the match at No. 4 with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Marko Ballok.  Sophomore Craig Dunne and junior R.J. Nagel were unfinished at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

 

The Jaguars match against Middle Tennessee for the championship was cancelled on Sunday due to the poor conditions and no available indoor facility.  USA returns home for its regular season finale on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts against North Florida.
