MOBILE, Ala. ? The 47th-ranked University of South Alabama women’s tennis team captured its ninth home win of the season Thursday afternoon when the Jags defeated No. 75 Louisville 6-1 at the Bruce David Memorial Tennis Courts.
With the win, USA improves to 13-7 on the spring, while Louisville falls to 8-13.
The Jaguar women took the early 1-0 match advantage when USA captured a pair of 8-3 victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. USA’s team of Adrianna Solarova/Sylvanie Spangenberg picked up the win at No. 1 over UL’s Robyn White and Lauren Imre, while Michaela Babicova and Dijan Stanic clinched the point with a victory at No. 3 over Jo-Ann Van Aerde and Natalie Laszkowski. The Cardinals did manage to prevent the sweep with an 8-5 victory at No 2.
In singles play, South Alabama continued its dominance, picking up straight set wins at Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6. The Cardinals’ Robyn White prevented the sweep for the Jags when she outlasted Sylvanie Spangenberg (4-6, 6-0, 7-6) at the No. 4 spot.
USA will next travel to Norfolk, Va., to begin a three-match road trip on Saturday when the Jaguar women take on No. 28 VCU.
