JAGS TAKE ON JACKSON STATE LOOKING FOR SERIES SWEEP

MOBILE, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama looks to complete the two-game series sweep over Jackson State Tuesday night, as the Jags and Tigers tangle at Stanky Field at 6 p.m.

 

The Jaguars enter the contest with a record of 20-18 on the season and are 17-8 at home. USA has been at its best this season during non-conference home games. In 16 games, USA is 12-4 and batting .339. On the mound during non-conference home games, USA’s ERA is 5.38.

 

Jackson State, out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, is 28-14 on the season. In the SWAC, JSU is 16-4 and leading the Eastern Division. JSU as a team is batting .343, also tops in the conference. On the bases, JSU has stolen 111-122 bases this season. USA has 45.

 

Earlier this season, USA hosted JSU and took the contest by a score of 19-3. In that game, South Alabama ripped 18 hits en route to its season high in runs scored with 20. Michael Cart and Jeff Cunningham each went deep.

 

All-time USA leads the series 3-0. The first meeting came back in 1990, an 8-7 Jaguar win. The following season, the two squads met again, with the Jags winning 12-5.

After the game Tuesday night, South Alabama will turn its sights to Florida Atlantic Thursday, Friday and Saturday. USA and FAU are both fighting to earn a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which will be held at Stanky Field May 23-26.
