DENTON, Texas - The 27th-ranked South Alabama men's tennis team earned a berth in the Sun Belt Conference Championship match with a 4-0 win over fifth-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday at the Waranch Tennis Complex. The Jags won their 20th match of the season and improve to 20-4 on the year and are one step closer to their 17th conference title.
USA won the doubles point taking the Nos. 2 and 3 matches in convincing fashion, 8-2 and 8-5, respectively. USA juniors Jack Baker and R.J. Nagel posted an 8-2 win at No. 2, while senior Dias Doskarayev and sophomore Craig Dunne won at No. 3, 8-5 to clinch the doubles point.
No. 123 Baker opened the singles portion with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Dusan Tabak for a 2-0 team lead. Junior Robert Hodel blanked Janusz Conradi, 6-0 6-0 at No. 4 for a 3-0 lead. Nagel clinched the match at No. 5 with a pair of 6-2 sets for the 4-0 win.
The top-seeded Jaguars now will face third-seeded Denver for the championship on Sunday at 2 p.m. Denver upset two seed Middle Tennessee 4-2 to advance to the title match.
