NO. 53 SOUTH ALABAMA BLANKS MIDDLE TENNESSEE AT SUN BELT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

DENTON, Texas ? The No. 53 South Alabama Lady Jaguars opened the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Championship with a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Middle Tennessee on Friday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Center on the campus of the University of North Texas.  With the win, the Lady Jags improve to 15-9 on the year, while the Blue Raiders finish the season at 8-13. 

 

The match began with USA winning the doubles point.  USA’s duo of Jelena Krivacevic and Rita Freitas posted an 8-4 win at No. 2 over Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Stephanie Parkison.  The Jags clinched the point with a win at No. 3 by Michaela Babicova and Dijana Stanic, 8-1.

 

In singles, the Jags got wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 6 to clinch the match.  Freitas blanked Parkison at No. 6, while Krivacevic made quick work of Marlene Chemin at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2 and Babicova posted a straight set victory over Siljestrom for the 4-0 score.

 

The third-seeded Jaguars now will face the winner of the Denver vs. UALR match at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
